The Left Write Hook Impact Campaign aims to stop child sexual abuse by empowering victim-survivors and raising awareness among target audiences with the ability to improve the lives of victim-survivors and prevent further harm.

Host a Left Write Hook Screening
Create a space, connect people, and start a conversation about supporting victim-survivors and amplifying their voices by registering your interest in hosting a corporate, community or educational screening. In-cinema or in your own venue.
We are keen to screen to health, legal, police or justice sectors workers, with the aim to reach professionals who regularly interact with victim-survivors in their work. Get in touch if you can help us make that happen!
Get ready to support
More than one quarter (28.5%) of people living in Australia have experienced child sexual abuse. It is quite likely you know someone who is a victim-survivor.
Take the initiative to explore these resources, so you feel prepared to respond to anyone who discloses experiences of child sexual abuse to you, and help them find support.
Are you currently supporting a victim-survivor? Blue Knot Foundation’s workshops for supporters might be for you!
Support our impact campaign
In 2025 we are taking our film to communites around Australia, with panel discussions and lived experience representation. We are also using Left Write Hook as a resource, developing professional development training to enhance trauma-informed practice in targeted sectors.
Our goal is to generate more discussions about child sexual abuse, including incest, to challenge stereotypes about victim-survivors, fight stigma and advocate for the widespread availability of survivor-led recovery programs, like Left Write Hook. Join us in this work by making a tax-deductible donation!
Support the Left Write Hook Charity
The Left Write Hook Charity is working to deliver their flagship trauma recovery program to more victim-survivors across Australia. You can donate to help the charity scale up to meet community need.

The Issue
While commonly viewed as something that happened historically in institutions, child sexual abuse remains alarmingly common in contemporary Australia.
The Facts
More than one quarter (28.5%) of people living in Australia have experienced child sexual abuse. That’s more than 1 in 3 girls and almost 1 in 5 boys.
In 2022, 1.1 million adult women, and 343,500 adult men, living in Australia, had experienced sexual abuse by an adult before the age of 15 years.
Girls are twice as likely to experience child sexual abuse as boys.
On average, it takes survivors of child sexual abuse 23.9 years to tell someone about the abuse.
Adults who have been sexually abused as children can experience poorer physical and mental health. This includes chronic health issues such as pain, trouble sleeping and impacts on their mental health and wellbeing. They are more likely to be diagnosed with post-traumatic stress, anxiety and depression and to have attempted suicide.
Only 9% of the tertiary-qualified (health and mental health) workforce feel sufficiently equipped by their formal studies to respond to child sexual abuse.
Only 22% of people who have been in contact with public mental health services had ever been asked about child sexual abuse.
The Impact Campaign
Campaign Goals
Reclaim the conversation
Generate more conversations about child sexual abuse, including incest.
Rewrite perceptions
Challenge stereotypes, de-stigmatize perceptions of victim-survivors and the associated complex trauma they live with.
Release trauma
Advocate for the widespread availability of survivor-led recovery programs, like Left Write Hook.
Key Messages
We all have a role to play to stop child abuse.
More than 1 in 3 girls and almost 1 in 5 boys have experienced child sexual abuse.
Survivors are courageous and diverse and not defined solely by their abuse and trauma.
The effects of trauma are life-long.
Healing is possible with the right environment & support.
Recovery programs are also prevention mechanisms – they help to break the cycle of violence and enable others to access services across the spectrum of prevention, early intervention, response and recovery.
Survivor-led programs (like Left Write Hook) are powerful and need to be supported.
